WEST VIRGINIA STATE BAR ABA REPRESENTATIVE – At its meeting of January 13, 2012, The West Virginia State Bar Board of Governors modified the policy, which has been in effect for the past several years, of naming the Immediate Past President as the State Bar’s ABA Representative. The Board of Governors was of the opinion that it was in the best interest of the Bar to allow an individual to remain in the ABA Representative position for a period in excess of one year. Effective in 2012, any Past President of The West Virginia State Bar is eligible to self-nominate or to be nominated to serve as The State Bar’s ABA Representative for a term of three years. The individual may be elected to serve one additional, successive, three year term. Before nominating a Past President, that individual must be contacted to confirm that he/she will accept the nomination, if selected by the Board of Governors. Nominations for ABA State Bar Representative should be submitted to Anita R. Casey no later than April 4, 2012, in order to appear on The State Bar Board of Governors’ agenda of April 19, 2012. LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION – Notice of Availability of Competitive – Grant Funds for Calendar Year 2013 – The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) announces the availability of competitive grant funds to provide civil legal services to eligible clients during calendar year 2013. A Request for Proposals (RFP) and other information pertaining to the LSC grants competition will be available fromwww.grants.lsc.gov during the week of April 9, 2012. In accordance with LSC’s multiyear funding policy, grants are available for only specified service areas. To review the service areas for which competi tive grants are available, by state, go to www.grants.lsc.gov/about-grants/where-we-fund and click on the name of the state. A full list of all service areas in competition will also be posted on that page.
Applicants must file a Notice of Intent to Compete (NIC) through the online application system in order to participate in the competitive grants process. Information about LSC Grants funding, the application process, eligibility to apply for a grant, and how to file a NIC is available at www.grants.lsc.gov/about-grants. HEARING EXAMINERS NEEDED – The West Virginia Board of Medicine, a state agency, is seeking experienced attorneys to serve as Hearing Examiners on a contract basis from July 1, 2012 – June 2013.
Hearing Examiners are paid on an hourly basis for conducting hearings in Charleston and preparing proposed Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law and Recommended Decisions which conform to the West Virginia Medical Practice Act and implementing rules and the Administrative Procedures Act. Applicants should have at least 10 years of experience in administrative law and/or litigation and must be available as needed during the term of the contract. Applicants must comply with the Code of Conduct for Administrative Law Judges.
