DUES AND FRD COMPLIANCE REPORTS BECOME DELINQUENT AFTER SEPTEMBER 4, 2012
Due to September 1 falling on a Saturday, and the Labor Day holiday falling on September 3, the period for paying dues and submitting FRD Compliance reports is extended until SEPTEMBER 4, 2012.
Dues payments and compliance reports received, whether online, mail, email, or by hand delivery, become delinquent at midnight September 4. Late payments and late reporting are each subject to separate $25.00 penalties.

LAWYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The West Virginia State Bar is seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director of the newly organized West Virginia Lawyer Assistance Program (“WVLAP”). The ideal applicant will be an experienced attorney with recovery experience. However, experienced, credentialed professionals with an advanced degree in an appropriate field such as addiction, mental health, or employee assistance will be considered. Applicants should understand the problems of professionals experiencing impairments such as substance abuse, addiction, gambling, mental/emotional issues, and other potentially debilitating conditions. Superior communications and organizational skills are required, as is knowledge of evaluation and treatment methods. PEIA health insurance, state retirement plan and other benefits are included or available. The Executive Director will report to and be supervised by the WVLAP Board of Directors. As an employee of the West Virginia State Bar, the WVLAP Executive Director will be precluded from engaging in the private practice of law. LAWYER DISCIPLINARY BOARD REQUEST FOR COMMENTS: SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT COMMITTEE
The Lawyer Disciplinary Board has received a request for an opinion concerning the “indemnify and hold harmless” language contained in settlement agreements. The Committee has drafted an L.E.O. to address this issue, and is soliciting public comments thereon. Click here for a copy of the L.E.O. Court-Approved GAL Training-Trainings for guardians ad litem (GALs) in family court and child abuse/neglect cases will take place onNovember 14, 2012, at the Charleston Marriott and November 16, 2012, at the Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown. Sponsored by the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, the trainings will meet the new guidelines for family court GALs under the Rules of Practice and Procedure for Family Court, as well as the new training requirement for child abuse/neglect GALs/children’s attorneys under W.Va.
