October 13-29, 2015: The West Virginia State Bar will hold nine Regional Meetings this fall. These meetings will provide 3.0 Continuing Legal Education credits, including 2 in the areas of ethics and substance abuse. The seminars have only been approved for CLE credit in West Virginia. Lunch will be included at each meeting. Each Regional Meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last until, approximately, 1:30 p.m. The cost is $100 per person. One of The State Bar’s Officers will attend each meeting.
An Opportunity to Serve Those Who Served Our Country
The West Virginia State Bar’s Veterans and Military Affairs Committee will be hosting a webinar on Friday, October 30, 2015. The webinar will be live in Beckley and will be broadcast to the Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Bridgeport, Huntington, and Martinsburg. The webinar, which will run from 10:00 – 11:40, has been approved for 2.0 hours of general West Virginia CLE credit. Attendance is FREE but attendees will be asked to stay at the VAMC for one hour after the seminar working directly with veterans who will be scheduled for appointments at each facility between noon and 1:00 p.m. For a list of topics and speakers click here. Request for Public Comment on Amendments to the West Virginia Rules of Juvenile Procedure.
On July 22, 2015, the Court approved a sixty-day period for public comment on the proposed amendments to the West Virginia Rules of Juvenile Procedure. The proposed amendments to the Rules reflect the reorganization of Chapter 49 of the Code and incorporate statutory reforms to the juvenile justice system. Comments may be filed, in writing, with the Clerk of the Court on or before September 22, 2015.

The West Virginia Court Improvement Program (CIP) training committee will present its first one-hour webinar this fall, entitled “Partnering to Protect Parents Through Co-Petitioning” on December 2, 2015, at noon. Co-petitioning, a practice cultivated in West Virginia, has received national attention for innovation. Joyce Yedlosky, Team Coordinator of the W.Va. Coalition Against of Domestic Violence, and renowned attorney Catherine Munster will give the procedure and benefits of partnering with protective parents through co-petitioning in child abuse and neglect cases. This free webinar is for public defenders, prosecuting attorneys, appointed counsel, and guardians ad litem in child abuse and neglect cases. Ira M. Haught – Law License Annulled
On August 25,2015, the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia issued an Order which annulled Respondent Ira M. Haught’s license to practice law in the State of West Virginia.
