The Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission is currently receiving applications to fill the judicial vacancy on the 9th Family Court Circuit serving Logan County. Candidates must submit their completed applications by no later than 5:00 p.m. onSeptember 8, 2015. The deadline for submittal of letters of recommendation or comment is September 15, 2015. West Virginia Veterans Day of Service
The West Virginia State Bar’s Veterans and Military Affairs Committee will be hosting a webinar on Friday, October 30, 2015. The webinar will be broadcast to the Veterans Administration facilities in Beckley, Bridgeport, Huntington, and Martinsburg. The seminar is FREE but attendees will be asked to spend at least one hour after the seminar to work directly with veterans at each facility. Further details and registration will be available soon.

In Re: Approval of Amendments to Rule 15A.04 of the West Virginia Trial Court Rules
By order entered July 27, 2015, the Court approved amendments to Rule 15A.04 of the West Virginia Trial Court Rules with regard to participation in the Unified Electronic Filing System Pilot Project.
The Court entered an order seeking public comment on proposed revisions to the West Virginia Code of Judicial Conduct. The order is available on the Recent Rules Orders page of the Court’s website using this link.
The public comment period ends September 8, 2015. All comments must be in writing and filed with the Supreme Court Clerk’s Office.
Request for Public Comment on Proposed Revisions to the Rules of Appellate Procedure
On July 13, 2015, the Court entered an order requesting public comment on proposed revisions to the Rules of Appellate Procedure that will likely be of interest to your organizations. Among other changes, the proposed revisions are intended to provide guidance to counsel in criminal appeals, habeas corpus appeals, or abuse and neglect appeals when counsel lacks a good faith belief that an appeal is warranted, and the client demands that an appeal be advanced. The order is available atthis link. The deadline for public comments is September 11, 2015. All comments must be in writing and filed with the Clerk.

Request for Public Comment on Amendments to the West Virginia Rules of Juvenile Procedure.
On July 22, 2015, the Court approved a sixty-day period for public comment on the proposed amendments to the West Virginia Rules of Juvenile Procedure. The proposed amendments to the Rules reflect the reorganization of Chapter 49 of the Code and incorporate statutory reforms to the juvenile justice system. Comments may be filed, in writing, with the Clerk of the Court on or before September 22, 2015.
Better Outcomes For Youth: A Cross-Training For Defenders, Attorneys, And Advocates With Clients At Risk For Or Involved In Delinquency Or Criminal Matters Who Have Special Education Needs Or Mental Health Conditions.

October 13-29, 2015: The West Virginia State Bar will hold nine Regional Meetings this fall. These meetings will provide 3.0 Continuing Legal Education credits, including 2 in the areas of ethics and substance abuse. The seminars have only been approved for CLE credit in West Virginia. Lunch will be included at each meeting. Each Regional Meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last until, approximately, 1:30 p.m. The cost is $100 per person. One of The State Bar’s Officers will attend each meeting.
