This time of year we are especially thankful for our attorneys who have always given back to their communities. This month’s MoreThanALawyer Natalie Sal exemplifies the best in West Virginia attorneys with her generous giving of her time in both her legal practice and her private life. Read more about our Thanksgiving MoreThanALawyer below. ********************************************************************* Community service and engagement have always been a priority in Natalie Sal’s life. She and her Morgantown firm Sal Sellaro Culpepper Legal Group routinely provide pro bono legal services for clients of the Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center (RDVIC), WV Legal Aid, and WV Bar’s Legal Connect, and they have received multiple awards in recognition of their many years of pro bono service. Passionate about helping children and families, Natalie has served as a member of the West Virginia Court Improvement Oversight Board (charged with working state-wide to improve outcomes for children and families in the child welfare system) and frequently presents at continuing legal education conferences statewide on issues relating to child welfare.
Natalie’s philosophy – that the generous sharing of our time and talents is essential for our community to thrive – has been every bit as much a driving force in her private life. She is on the Board of Directors of Christian Help, a local nonprofit providing necessities and services to area residents, and is a consultant for The Pantry Plus More, another local nonprofit whose mission is to help provide food, clothing, and other necessities to school-aged children. Natalie spent over 18 years as a frequent volunteer for West Virginia Public Broadcasting, providing both extensive on-air volunteer assistance and off-air support for television and radio fund drives. She encourages others to become involved with the various community organizations and efforts addressing the challenges facing families in West Virginia, believing that, "Our collective wisdom is so much greater than that of any one of us alone."
As a mother of two amazing children (and volunteers-in-training), Natalie is an extremely active volunteer and fundraiser for Morgantown Learning Academy, her children’s nonprofit school, and serves on the affiliated Mountain Stewardship and Outdoor Leadership Advisory Board that oversees the unique Mountain SOL outdoor education program. With a deep love of science and an engineering background, Natalie and her husband also promote science engagement and education for children in the community. From her daily social media “Cool Science Fact” to coaching FIRST Lego Robotics to providing occasional hands-on science exhibitions at area schools and daycare programs, Natalie encourages adults and children alike to get involved and to “Play science!”
Thank you, Natalie, for your dedication to pro bono service and to these volunteer organizations and the families they serve. You make us proud! ****************************************************** What is our MoreThanALawyer campaign all about? It highlights all the ways West Virginia’s attorneys impact lives within and outside of their profession. West Virginia's lawyers are service members, volunteers, mentors, coaches, musicians and committed advocates. In all of these roles, they make a difference in their community. Each month we share a MoreThanALawyer story on West Virginia State Bar’s Facebook and Twitter pages. ... See MoreSee Less
