MCLE 2012-14 Reporting Period

The July 1,2012 – June 30,2014 Reporting Period

has ended. Members who were non-compliant as of 

August 1, 2014 will be assessed a $50 late filing fee. 

Members non-compliant after October 1st will be assessed a $100 late filing fee.

Annual Membership Reporting & Fees 2014-15
Members are required to comply with FRD & IOLTA reporting requirements and pay fees by midnight September 2, 2014.

West Virginia Online Legal Help-New Pro Bono Opportunity

The West Virginia State Bar is excited to announce a new opportunity for attorneys to provide pro bono assistance to the public anytime, from anywhere.  West Virginia Online Legal Help(www.wvonlinelegalhelp.org)is a new website where low-income West Virginians can post questions about their civil legal needs.  The questions are answered by volunteer attorneys, who provide basic information and legal advice for free.

We need West Virginia attorneys to sign up to volunteer.  The benefits of volunteering include:

  • No expectation of long-term representation.
  • Professional liability insurance provided.
  • Attorney’s name is anonymous to user.

Please go to www.wvonlinelegalhelp.org and click on “Lawyers Sign Up” to register to volunteer.  We hope to open the website to questions from the public in September 2014.

Notifications

The West Virginia State Bar, in conjunction with the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, is pleased to offer a new service to our members.  In addition to receiving emails advising of situations, disseminated by the Supreme Court, which may impact your practice (these notifications include courthouse closings or similar events in your county and contiguous counties), you may now register to receive these notifications on your mobile phone via text message (SMS).  Standard text messaging rates would apply, should you choose to avail yourself of this service.  To do so log in towww.mywvbar.org and update the notification section of your member profile.

Please note: only members who register for this service will be notified via text message.

State Bar Polo Shirts

WV State Bar Regional Meetings

The West Virginia State Bar will hold nine Regional Meetings  this fall. These meetings will provide 3.0 Continuing Legal Education credits in the areas of ethics, office management, substance abuse, and/or elimination of bias. Lunch will be included at each meeting. Each Regional Meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last until, approximately, 1:30 p.m. The cost is $100 per person. One of The State Bar’s Officers will attend each meeting.

Below is a list of tentative dates and locations.

Oct. 8 – Morgantown Oct. 28 – Huntington
