Each Regional Meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will last until 1:30 p.m. The cost is $100 per person. One of The State Bar’s Officers will attend each meeting.
Active Members who have not completed annual reporting and paid fees, will be assessed an automatic penalty of $25.00 for late reporting of your Financial Responsibility Disclosure and a separate penalty of $25.00 for late payment of fees. A notice was mailed on September 20th to all active memberswho have not completed both their reporting and fee payment. On November 21st, members will be automatically suspended and may not engage in the practice of law until reinstated.
If you wish to pay and report by paper, forms are available onThe State Bar’s website. There is a $10.00 processing fee for all paper submissions, which must be paid at the time of submission. Members who wish to file online and select to pay by check are not subject to the $10 processing fee.
The Office of the West Virginia Attorney General is encouraging qualified law firms and attorneys to submit proposals for several Requests for Proposal that are currently pending on the Attorney General’s website. The Criminal Law Committee is pleased to announce that State Senator Corey Palumbo (Judiciary Chair) will present a seminar on the bills passed by the 2013 legislature, and discuss issues which are anticipated to come before the 2014 legislature at the State Bar Center at noon on November 12. One (1) hour of CLE credit will be given for the seminar. The seminar will be limited to the first 35 registrants. Clifford Project will present “A New Home for Liberty,” a community historical drama about West Virginia Statehood and civil rights. The West Virginia Public Defender services has published new guidelines for determining the eligibility of individuals for the representation that is made available under the provisions of Article 21 of Chapter 29 of the West Virginia Code. The guidelines took effect on October 1, 2013.
The Network for Public Health Law and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation are receiving applications for the Visiting Attorney, Public Health Law Practice Fellowship. This program offers J.D.s the opportunity to develop skills and competencies in practice-based public health law that will advance their careers in the field and prepare them for employment within local, state, federal or tribal public health organizations.
