Opening on Worker’s Compensation Board of Review
Members of the Workers Compensation Board of Review Nominating Committee are accepting applications for a Board of Review opening.  Applications should be sent to Anita R. Casey, Executive Director, West Virginia State Bar, 2000 Deitrick Boulevard, Charleston, West Virginia 25311 or to caseya@wvbar.org.  Applications must be RECEIVED by NOON on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. To review the legal authority, purpose, seat restrictions,  compensation and other information on the Board of Review click here.

Electronic Voting
On February 14, 2019 members in Districts 1-5 (see list below) were emailed information on how to submit votes for Board of Governor and Young Lawyer Section Executive Committee Nominees using the State Bar’s E-Voting system. Each member were provided a specific link to vote for the nominees in his or her district. If you did not receive this link go to www.mywvbar.org, login and click “Vote Now”.
Voting will close at 11:59PM, Wednesday, March 20, 2019. 

Questions on the operation of the voting system should be directed to Mike Mellace at mellacem@wvbar.org. Other questions should be directed to the Elections Committee via Anita R. Casey at caseya@wvbar.org.

Call for Judges: 2019 National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court
The National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition, hosted March 7-9 by WVU Law, is seeking volunteer judges. Early round judges must be attorneys of good standing licensed to practice law in any state. Final round (March 9, afternoon) judges must be a federal or state appellate judge. Now in its ninth year, the National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition attracts exceptional law students from across the country. A record 29 teams are signed up to compete this year. To volunteer or for questions, please email wvumoot@mail.wvu.edu with “Judge 2019” in the subject line. For more information on the competition, click here.

West Virginia Free Legal Answers 2018 
Pro Bono Leaders
The State Bar’s Legal Outreach Committee wishes to recognize the ABA Free Legal Answers 2018 Pro Bono Leaders. On January 24, 2019 the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, awarded Dawn White of Berkeley Springs, WV and Nigel Jeffries of Charleston, WV as ABA Free Legal Answers 2018 Pro Bono Leaders.
The Committee presents this annual recognition to individual attorneys, law firms, and law departments tha have provided extraordinary pro bono services through West Virginia Free Legal Answers. Both attorneys each individually answered more than 100 civil legal questions in the 2018 calendar year. Through their exceptional pro bono assistance they are helping ensure that the low income community is receiving the legal help they need.

West Virginia Free Legal Answers 2018 
Pro Bono Leaders

Legal Aid is Hosting Statewide Family Law Clinics
Legal Aid of West Virginia will host free Divorce and Custody/Custody Modification clinics in each of its 12 regional legal offices on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month in 2019, except December, which will only have clinics on the 13th. Divorce clinics will begin at 9 a.m.
Custody clinics will begin at 10 a.m.

Practicing West Virginia attorneys are encouraged to volunteer to teach one of the clinic sessions, with support from Legal Aid staff. Clinic volunteer opportunities are available in LAWV’s 12 regional offices: Beckley, Charleston, Clarksburg, Elkins, Huntington, Lewisburg, Logan, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Princeton, and Wheeling. Office addresses, where the clinics will be held, can be found online at www.lawv.net.
Attorneys are also encouraged to refer the public to the clinics. Potential attendees who have questions or want more information should call 866-255-4370.
