The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full-time United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of West Virginia at the Martinsburg point of holding court. The magistrate judge should also be prepared to travel and conduct hearings at the Clarksburg, Elkins, and Wheeling points of holding court.
The West Virginia Public Defender services has published new guidelines for determining the eligibility of individuals for the representation that is made available under the provisions of Article 21 of Chapter 29 of the West Virginia Code. The guidelines took effect on October 1, 2013.
The Network for Public Health Law and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation are receiving applications for the Visiting Attorney, Public Health Law Practice Fellowship. This program offers J.D.s the opportunity to develop skills and competencies in practice-based public health law that will advance their careers in the field and prepare them for employment within local, state, federal or tribal public health organizations.

The Criminal Law Committee is pleased to announce that State Senator Corey Palumbo (Judiciary Chair) will present a seminar on the bills passed by the 2013 legislature, and discuss issues which are anticipated to come before the 2014 legislature at the State Bar Center at noon on November 12. One (1) hour of CLE credit will be given for the seminar. The seminar will be limited to the first 35 registrants.
