Public Defender Corporation for the 25th Judicial Circuit (Boone and Lincoln Counties)
The Public Defender Corporation for the 25th Judicial Circuit, covering Boone and Lincoln Counties, is seeking a motivated individual to serve as an administrative assistant for its Lincoln County office in Hamlin, WV.
The right candidate will be able to hit the ground running to assist the two attorneys who work in Hamlin office with the Corporation’s day-to-day operations. The administrative assistant must be able to express compassion for the situations surrounding our clients and maintain confidentiality for the cases that move in and out of the office in order to protect our clients’ personal information.
This position will be based out of the Corporation’s Hamlin, West Virginia office. The administrative assistant will answer to the Corporation’s Office Manager and Chief Public Defender.
Qualifications:
– High School Diploma.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
– Ability to learn new office systems specifically related to the Public Defender’s Office.
– Previous court or law office experience is preferred, but not necessary for the position.
Responsibilities:
– Primary responsibilities include scheduling appointments, answering phones, photocopying, faxing, filing, scanning, and shredding.
– Conduct intake for the files that are appointed by the court to the Public Defender’s Office.
– Support the Office Manager, other administrative assistants, and attorneys to accomplish their duties and responsibilities.
– Maintain the calendars for attorneys in the TimeMatters system.
– Collecting orders and motions from the West Virginia eFile system for intake and filing.
Skills
To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills:
– Strong legal administrative skills, including organization, and time management.
– Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the office’s attorneys.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and other office software.
– Basic familiarity with everyday office technology such as a copier, scanner, and fax.
Salary and Benefits:
– Salary: $30,000 per year.
