Associate Attorney – Estate Planning & Elder Law

Jarvis Law Office, P.C.  | Parkersburg, WV (In-Office) | Full-Time | Exempt (Salary)

Help Ohio Families Plan with Confidence

For more than 20 years, Jarvis Law Office, P.C. has helped Ohio and West Virginia families protect what matters most through estate planning, elder law, and long-term care planning. We are looking for a client-focused Associate Attorney who enjoys building relationships, designing thoughtful plans, and guiding families through both pre-planning and crises.

In this role, you will lead plan design meetings with prospective clients, recommend solutions that fit their goals, and oversee the quality of their plans from engagement through signing. You will work closely with our paralegals and Client Success team and report to the Managing Attorney, with a broad degree of discretion over the cases assigned to you.

What You Will Do

Client Consultations & Plan Design

·         Facilitate design meetings with prospective clients and develop plan recommendations aligned with their goals.

·         Prepare Attorney-Client Engagement Agreements and secure signatures before work begins.

·         Review information from initial meetings and outline plan designs for the drafting attorney or paralegal to follow.

·         Meet with clients, family members, and trustees at signing appointments to review final documents, confirm that discussed provisions are included, and answer questions.

·         Answer client questions and calls about case status as needed.

Quality & Legal Production

·         Review estate planning documents before signing, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and HIPAA authorizations, as well as estate administration and long-term care planning documents.

·         Provide feedback and guidance to improve legal production workflow and file tracking.

·         Ensure team members follow established policies and procedures for file preparation and office protocol.

·         Review client files before closing to confirm all recommendations and tasks are complete and well documented.

·         Keep client notes and files current in our practice management system (ActionStep).

·         Assist with drafting documents as needed.

Team & Firm Growth

·         Coach, mentor, and train team members.

·         Collaborate with the firm’s owner on practice improvements, trends, and enhanced client offerings.

·         Stay current on estate planning, tax, estate administration, VA Benefits, Medicaid, and long-term care planning law.

·         Write articles for newsletters and the firm website, and lead workshops, seminars, and presentations as requested.

What You Bring

·         An active West Virginia law license in good standing.

·         At least 2 years of legal sales or client development experience, with a track record of converting consultations into clients.

·         At least 1 year of Elder Law experience.

·         At least 5 years of customer service experience.

·         Working knowledge of estate planning documents, trusts, Medicaid planning, and probate.

·         Warm, confident communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal concepts in plain language.

·         Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work product.

·         Experience with legal practice management software (ActionStep a plus).

Why Join Jarvis Law Office

·         Meaningful work: Help seniors and their families navigate some of life’s most important decisions with care and confidence.

·         Room to grow: Build your elder law and estate planning practice skills alongside an experienced, collaborative team.

·         A supportive team: Work closely with dedicated paralegals and Client Success professionals who share your commitment to clients.

·         A benefits package that supports you: We invest in the health, financial security, and professional growth of our team with a comprehensive benefits package that includes major medical, dental, and vision coverage; a 401(k) with employer match; competitive paid time off; and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) assistance to help you stay at the forefront of estate planning and elder law.

Compensation

$90,000, plus a guaranteed minimum monthly bonus of $2,000 for the first 6 months.

How to Apply

If you are passionate about elder law and enjoy helping families plan for the future, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why this role is a great fit for you.
