POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Legal Counsel, Employment is responsible for providing in-house legal support to the Hope Utilities, Inc. family of companies (“Hope”) as part of the Hope Legal Team, specifically in the areas of labor and employment law.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Assist the Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel in representing and advising the Company on all manner of legal matters, including litigation and transactional matters
•Conduct legal research
•Represent Hope before administrative, regulatory, and judicial bodies
•Lend primary legal support to the Hope Human Resources team on labor and employment matters
•Draft, review, and update contracts
•Assist in mergers and acquisition activities
•Support regulatory filings
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The team member in this role will:
•Serve as an Individual Contributor with minimal supervisory responsibilities.
•Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
•Be a member of a state bar in good standing and able to practice in-house in WV
•Employment law expertise
•Labor law knowledge
•Ability to strictly maintain confidentiality and be trusted with sensitive information
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Excellent legal research and writing skills
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
•A JD is required
•A minimum of 8 years of experience in house or at a reputable law firm in the field of employment law is required
•Labor law experience is strongly preferred
•Utility experience preferred
•WV law license preferred
WORK CONTEXT
•This is a full-time exempt salaried position based out of the Morgantown, WV headquarters with travel to Jane Lew and other Hope locations, including occasional out-of-state travel, required
•Employee must work a minimum of four days in person per week (and may work remotely one day each week only in accordance with Company policy).
