Video Conference Update
The State Bar has upgraded its video conference system and would encourage members, who have attended a video conference in the past, to update your Zoom video conference software on your device. To download the new version go to zoom.us/download, or check for updates by opening your Zoom app window, clicking zoom.us in the top left corner of your screen, and then clicking “Check for Updates”. If you have questions regarding video conferencing with the State Bar, contact Mike Mellace at mellacem@wvbar.org.
TOYS FOR TOTS
The West Virginia State Bar’s Veteran and Military Affairs Committee is participating in the Marine Corp Reserve’s Toys for Tots program again this year. If you are interested in volunteering to help by hosting a drop box, collecting and/or sorting toys, please contact Anita Casey at caseya@wvbar.org. Collections will be done during the month of November. Sorting and distribution will be done the first two weeks of December.
Tuesday Legal Connect
The State Bar is in need of volunteer attorneys on Tuesday evenings in December 2019 to field legal questions from the public as part of the “Tuesday Legal Connect” program. Volunteers work out of the Legal Aid of WV office located at 922 Quarrier Street, Charleston, WV from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Dinner is provided. If you are interested in helping in December, please email David Frercks at dfrercks@lawv.net as soon as possible.
United States Bankruptcy Judge Vacancy
The U. S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is accepting applications for a 14-year appointment as Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of West Virginia at Charleston. Applications must be completed and received no later than December 9, 2019.
By order entered on October 31, 2019, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals approved a 30-day period of public comment on the proposed amendment to the Administrative Rules for the Magistrate Courts of West Virginia. The public comment period closes on December 2, 2019. Comments are to be filed in writing with the Clerk of Court. To review the proposed rules, click here.

West Virginia State Bar-Young Lawyer Section Bridge The Gap Program
About: Each new lawyer admitted to practice after July 1, 2018 will have twenty-four months after their date of admission to complete the Bridge the Gap Program.
Location: Bridgeport Conference Center – Bridgeport, WV
CLE: 7.8 hours, including 3 hours legal ethics, law office management, and substance abuse
Only Members Admitted after July 1, 2018 may attend.
For members who will be sworn into the West Virginia State Bar on October 30, 2019, please wait until after you are admitted to register for the November 15, 2019 Bridge the Gap Program. Registration will be open until November 10, 2019.
