TOYS FOR TOTS
The West Virginia State Bar’s Veteran and Military Affairs Committee is participating in the Marine Corp Reserve’s Toys for Tots program again this year. Boxes will be distributed on November 13 and 14.  Pick-up will be on December 9 and 10.  If you are interested in volunteering to help by hosting a drop box, collecting and/or sorting toys, please contact Anita Casey at caseya@wvbar.org.   If you wish to drop off toys outside of the Charleston Area, you may do so at Holtzapfel Law Office, 1200 State Route 34, Hurricane, WV.  For available drop off times, contact Debbie at 304-757-7888.
Succession Planning Committee
The State Bar’s Succession Planning Committee is seeking interested new members.  The purpose of the Committee will be to notify and educate Bar members on the need to prepare a written succession plan and to offer continuing education opportunities on the requirements of Administrative Rule 14.  The Committee’s next meeting will be on December 5, 2019 at noon at The State Bar Center.  You may participate by telephone or video conference, also.  Any Bar member interested in participating as a committee member should contact Bill Harvit at bharvit@hartleylawgrp.com.  
Video Conference Update
The State Bar has upgraded its video conference system and would encourage members, who have attended a video conference in the past, to update your Zoom video conference software on your device. To download the new version go to zoom.us/download, or check for updates by opening your Zoom app window, clicking zoom.us in the top left corner of your screen, and then clicking “Check for Updates”. If you have questions regarding video conferencing with the State Bar, contact Mike Mellace at mellacem@wvbar.org.
United States Bankruptcy Judge Vacancy
The U. S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is accepting applications for a 14-year appointment as Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of West Virginia at Charleston.  Applications must be completed and received no later than December 9, 2019.
Adoption of Proposed Amendments to the Judicial Disciplinary Procedure – 19-Rules-14
By Order entered on October 31, 2019, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals is of opinion to and does hereby adopt the proposed amendments to Rule 4.12 of the Rules of Judicial Disciplinary Procedure.  To review Rule 4.12 click here.
Member Art Display
 The State Bar is pleased to announce the exhibition of art work of State Bar Member Jann Hoke at the State Bar Center. Ms. Hoke’s 21 pieces of oil on canvas and mix-media art will be available for viewing until the end of March 2020.

 By order entered on October 31, 2019, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals approved a 30-day period of public comment on the proposed amendment to the Administrative Rules for the Magistrate Courts of West Virginia. The public comment period closes on December 2, 2019. Comments are to be filed in writing with the Clerk of Court. To review the proposed rule, click here.

West Virginia State Bar-Young Lawyer Section Bridge The Gap Program
About: Each new lawyer admitted to practice after July 1, 2018 will have twenty-four months after their date of admission to complete the Bridge the Gap Program.
Location: Bridgeport Conference Center – Bridgeport, WV
CLE:  7.8 hours, including 3 hours legal ethics, law office management, and substance abuse
Only Members Admitted after July 1, 2018 may attend.  
For members who will be sworn into the West Virginia State Bar on October 30, 2019, please wait until after you are admitted to register for the November 15, 2019 Bridge the Gap Program.  Registration will be open until November 10, 2019.

Location:   The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, WV
CLE:    6 hours
Cost:    $150 for CLE
A block of hotel rooms are reserved at The Greenbrier Resort, White Sulpher Springs, and The Hampton Inn, Lewisburg, at a discounted rate.  To receive the discounted rate, inform The Greenbrier or Hampton Inn that you are attending the West Virginia State Bar’s event and use Block Code WVSB2020 when making your reservation.
