Appellate Practice Committee
The State Bar is forming an Appellate Practice Committee. The purpose of this Committee will be to promote the skills of West Virginia appellate advocates, offer continuing legal education opportunities, monitor changes to the Rules of Appellate Procedure, and foster professionalism and excellence in appellate advocacy.  The Committee also will serve as a resource for the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit to assist in rule evaluations and amendments, pro bono appointments, and other programs.  Any member interested in participating should contact Carte Goodwin at cgoodwin@fbtlaw.com or 304-345-0111

Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia
The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia is currently seeking candidates for the position of Administrative Director. This position is responsible for all administrative aspects of the Court and reports directly to the Supreme Court Justices. Lawyer Referral Service Upgrade
The West Virginia State Bar Lawyer Referral Service was recently upgraded to a new system.  Clients seeking attorneys now have the ability to request a consultation or find contact information for an attorney at www.wvlawyerreferral.org. The new system allows registered attorneys the ability to track their incoming referrals using www.wvlawyerreferral.org. To sign up as an attorney on the lawyer referral service go to https://www.mywvbar.org/members/profile and select “Yes” in the Lawyer Referral Service Section register while reporting your FRD & IOLTA information.

MCLE Reminder for the July 1, 2016-June 30, 2018 Reporting Period
The July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2018 reporting period ends June 30, 2018.  The filing deadline is July 31, 2018.  Please login to the member portal at www.mywvbar.org and go to My Transcript to view the credits reported, and to confirm, edit, or delete any pending submissions from the sponsor reporting.  Credits may be completed during the month of July 2018 and carried back to the July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2018 period, without penalty.  Please be sure to select the appropriate reporting period.  Credits filed after August 1, 2018, or later will require a $50 late filing fee.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE LAST REMINDER FOR ALL MEMBERS.  E-MAILS WILL ONLY BE SENT TO INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS NOT YET IN COMPLIANCE BEGINNING JULY 6, 2018.
