Annual Membership Reporting & Fee Notice
On June 13, 2019 all Active and Inactive Members were mailed an orange postcard via U. S. mail.  The postcard contains instructions on how to complete reporting and pay fees for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.  The deadline for reporting and paying fees is on or before midnight, September 3, 2019.  For more information on how to complete the process go to http://www.wvbar.org and click on the Membership Reporting & Fees 2019-20 tab.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT 
The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is seeking applications for a fourteen-year appointment as U. S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of West Virginia at Wheeling.  Questions should be directed to James N. Ishida, Circuit Executive, U. S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit atvacancy@ca4.uscourts.gov.  Applications must be completed

STUDENT ART WORK DISPLAY
The State Bar is pleased to announce the exhibition of the art work of Saint Joseph Central Catholic High School students at the State Bar Center.  The students’ oil on canvas display of 17 pieces will be available for viewing until the end of September 2019.   Thank you is extended to the talented students and their art instructor, Sherri Holtzapfel, for lending the art work to The State Bar.

By order entered on June 19, 2019, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals approved a 30-day period of public comment on the proposed amendment to the West Virginia Rules of Juvenile Procedure.  The public comment period closes on July 19, 2019. Comments are to be filed in writing with the Clerk of Court.

REQUEST FOR COMMENT ON PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE WEST VIRGINIA 
RULES OF PROCEDURE FOR CHILD ABUSE 
AND NEGLECT PROCEEDINGS 
By order entered on June 19, 2019, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals approved a 30-day period of public comment on amendments to the West Virginia Rules of Procedure for Child Abuse and Neglect Proceedings. The public comment period closes on July 19, 2019.  Comments are to be filed in writing with the the Clerk of Court.

Lawyer Assistance Programs
On-line registration for the ABA 2019 National Conference for Lawyer Assistance Programs being held on September 24-26, 2019 at the Hilton Austin Downtown in Austin, Texas is now open!   This year’s conference theme is “From Surviving to Thriving: LAPs Lead the Way.”  The conference will have sessions of interest to judges, disciplinary staff, bar leaders, lawyer assistance program directors and staff, law students, law school administrators and law firm managers, as well as abundant opportunities to network with LAP personnel and volunteers involved in Lawyer Assistance Programs from across the United States, Canada and Great Britain.  The Honorable Beth Walker of the West Virginia Supreme Court will be participating in a panel discussion at the conference.  We look forward to your participation.  If you have any questions regarding registration for this event, please contact Amber Hanna at hanna@wvjlap.org.
