The By‑Laws of the West Virginia State Bar provide for the election of a member to the Board of Governors for a four-year term beginning in April 2021, from State Bar Districts 9 through 12 and one African American Governor.
Nominations for the Board must be by written petition signed by, not less than, the number of members identified below who have their principal place of business in the same District as the nominee. African American nominees must have their principle place of business in West Virginia. No member shall sign more than one nominating petition in any year. The nominee must sign at least one of the petitions.
The counties comprising the electing districts are:
9 Raleigh and Wyoming – (10 required to nominate)
10 Mercer, Monroe and Summers – (10 required to nominate)
11 Fayette, Greenbrier and Nicholas – (10 required to nominate)
12 Braxton, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur and Webster – (10 required to nominate)

Once signed by the requisite number of members, the petition must be RECEIVED, by mail or email, no later than 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Completed petitions should be sent to the Executive Director of the West Virginia State Bar, 2000 Deitrick Boulevard, Charleston, WV 25311-1231 or caseya@wvbar.org. If multiple copies of the petition are used, they must be sent together.
Any nominee elected to the Board of Governors will be required to attend training on Wednesday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. at Tamarack. Training is anticipated to last until 2:00 p.m. Attendance at the Annual Meeting on April 11 and 12 at The Greenbrier Resort is required.
