The By‑Laws of the West Virginia State Bar provide for the election of a young lawyer member to fill vacancies on the Young Lawyer Section Board for a four-year term beginning immediately from State Bar District 12 and one African American Board member.
Nominations for the Young Lawyer Board must be by written petition signed by, not less than, the number of young lawyer members identified below who have their principal place of business in the same District as the nominee. African American nominees must have their principle place of business in West Virginia. No member shall sign more than one nominating petition in any year. The nominee must sign at least one of the petitions.
The counties comprising the electing districts are:
12 Braxton, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur and Webster – (3 required to nominate)
African Amercian (4 required to nominate)

A nominating petition is located on the back of this page. A copy of the nominating petition can also be found on The State Bar’s website at www.wvbar.org/2021Petition. Once signed by the requisite number of young lawyer members, the petition must be RECEIVED, by mail or email, no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021. Completed petitions should be sent to the Executive Director of the West Virginia State Bar, 2000 Deitrick Boulevard, Charleston, WV 25311-1231 or caseya@wvbar.org. If multiple copies of the petition are used, they must be sent together. Elections will be open on May 17 and will run until 11:59 p.m. on May 24.
Any nominee elected to the Young Lawyer Board will begin his or her term at the Board’s next meeting on July 23/24 at Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean, West Virginia.
